She has decided….

June 3rd, 2008

to follow Jesus. She was right. A few days after she turned 5, she felt big enough to do it.

A few nights ago at the dinner table, we were talking about God, Jesus, heaven and other such mind blowing topics, especially for little guys. In the course of the conversation Jackson said, “I decided to make Jesus my king and follow him when I was five have you decided yet Chloe?” She said, “Not yet.” and we all went on with the conversation.

Last night she woke up twice calling for me. That is not normal. She had some itches and couldn’t sleep, the second time she was hungry. Both not normal for her, so I wondered if God was doing something with her. So the second time, I gave her a piece of an apple and said, “just lay still and you can talk with Jesus”. She said “I am, he says He loves me and wants to be with me and with all people.” I gave her a kiss and prayed for her and went back down stairs.

This morning she declared to me that she made Jesus her king and that she is his Queen. Well, way to know who you are in Christ. Not just a princess but a Queen. Welcome to the kingdom baby girl, take it and run. It is an amazing adventure.

Grace and Peace to you my little Queen:-)

Well, we are just creating the environment and giving them good “spiritual” food to eat. The Holy Spirit is doing the rest:-)

I am seeing that 5 is a magical age of understanding. We saw it with Jax and now with Chloe. Right about 4.5 they start really developing a strong will. Not just typical stuff, but there is a strong battle going on with just wanting what you want. As soon as Jax gave in, that struggle ended and he is somehow more submissive. He still wants what he wants, but there is something softer within. We will see how this goes with Chloe.

Really, we focus on Jesus and the kingdom of God. I start elaborating on how mysterious the kingdom of God is, and offering little stories to help them grab on to the concept. We show them where he walked on the earth on the globe. We explain that he no longer walks the earth they way He once did, but his people walk the earth in the same way, doing the same things he did.

Zeek is still young. Keep worshiping, asking him to pray with you when you are having a bad day and you need Jesus’ help. Let him watch you and Greg. Things will make more sense as he matures. I have a certain set of “lessons” I start going over when they are 3 - aways focusing on Jesus, his parables and the kingdom, not hell and Satan - safety and love first always, and we just build along until their is a natural connection to Jesus as king. Not for fire insurance but a growing relationship that will last for eternity and it starts now.

I didn’t realize it until we starting working through this again with Chloe that there are certainly and very definitely things we DO do and things we DO NOT do. Maybe I should make a post out of it. We realized pre-kids that their spiritual formation was our responsibility and not the church or Sunday school, so we have thought long and hard about it.

I am confident in the Holy Spirit calling your little Zeek. Just pray for wisdom and you will have it. You are doing a great job!
    Love ya,
